Highfield Garden Reserve and Donkey Society Incorporated looks after the donkeys and their environment, with help from local volunteers and donations, in partnership with Auckland Council. Memberships are only $10 per household per financial year (1st July to 30th June).

Volunteer

Give back to your community and consider becoming a volunteer with Highfield! We are always looking for volunteers to help out with maintaining the reserve and for our special events such as our Donkey Days - these are all volunteer-led.

We have a working bee at Highfield every Tuesday morning starting at 9am. If you have an interest in donkeys, gardening and/or a particular knowledge around native trees, plants and orchards -
we'd love to hear from you.

Pest Control Programme

Highfield has had an active Pest Control programme in place since around 2000. There are a total of 29 traps, 18 bait stations, and recently 4 of the new automatic traps (AT220) spread around the bush areas.

The catch rate has dropped off significantly lately, which is a good sign, as Highfield is part of the key ‘Buffer Zone’ in the Pest Free Mahurangi East initiative.
